Xi'an Qinling Wildlife Park (西安秦岭野生动物园) - Covering an area of 329 acres and located 28 km from the historical city Xi'an, Xi'an Qinling Wildlife Park is the first wildlife zoo in northwest China.  The park has about 10,000 animals in 300 species, including the endangered white tiger, white python, takin, golden monkey, crested ibis, and some other rare species.  The park has been open to public since May 1, 2004 after the old Xi'an Zoo was closed and all the animals moved to the newly constructed wildlife park at Qinling.

During the old days at Xi'an Zoo, there were several giant pandas, include a rare brown-colored giant panda named Dan Dan (丹丹), and a female named Wan Wan (弯弯), both were rescued from wild near the area of Foping Natural Reserve (佛坪自然保护区).   On August 31, 1989, their son Qin Qin (秦秦) was born in the zoo.  In 1992, Wan Wan (弯弯) died of sickness.  Eight years later in September 2000, Dan Dan (丹丹) died of skin cancel at age 31.  On November 22, 2006, Qin Qin(秦秦) died quietly in his sleep at Xi'an Qinling Wildlife Park at age of 17.

 

 

According to the park official who told Panda Fund staffs, the park has currently housed only one female giant panda, who was relocated to Xi'an Qinling Wildlife Park on June 12, 2008 from the Sichuan earthquake zone after the devastated 8 Richter Scale quake hit the central Sichuan on May 12, 2008 .  It was reported that the female panda was pregnant that time and was ready to give birth after moved to Xi'an.  However, there is no story on the anticipated birth in the park reported.
